A first information report was lodged at the Rabupura police station, invoking the Foreigners Act and the Passport (Entry into India) Act, alongside sections 120B (pertaining to criminal conspiracy) and 34 (pertaining to acts committed with a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. These actions sparked an intense public debate, centered around how Seema managed to enter the country undetected, igniting concerns regarding national security.

Meanwhile, Seema's estranged husband, Ghulam Haider, toils away in a distant land, employed in Saudi Arabia.
